ABOX42 supplies 1&1 with set-top-boxes

January 8, 2018 08.15 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

1&1, one of Germany’s largest internet service providers, has selected the M30 series smart set-top-box platform from ABOX42 for its new multiscreen digital TV service.

With the solution supplied by the German set-top-box provider, 1&1 can deliver services such as live TV, VOD, catch-up TV, time-shift TV, PVR, HbbTV and video streaming services like maxdome to its customers.

ABOX42’s set-top-box platform is pre-integrated with the multiscreen TV solution from Zattoo allowing 1&1 subscribers to view TV content both on the main TV screen and on secondary devices like tablets, smartphones, streaming devices and PCs.

With the M30 platform, 1&1 can deliver its services via unicast IPTV on DSL/VDSL and fibre networks, according to ABOX42, adding that the platform ensures efficient streaming of HD broadcast and on-demand content using latest generation MPEG-DASH playout for live TV with multi-audio and teletext, local and cloud recording and time-shift as well as multi DRM support.

“With more than 4 million DSL customers in Germany, 1&1 is a powerful player in the service provider market, and adding a compelling television offering to its portfolio will further strengthen its position,” said Matthias Greve, CEO of ABOX42. “Ultimately, 1&1 chose the ABOX42 set-top box platform based on our extensive deployment expertise, fast time to market, and support for next-generation features, including HbbTV and on-demand streaming services. Together, we’re shaping next-generation television experiences in Germany.”
