70% of customers prefer series while 54% are interested in movies and 47% in documentaries. These are the results of the Pay-VoD-Monitor 2016 for which German consultancy and research group Goldmedia interviewed 2,058 internet users.

The most popular genres are crime and thriller followed by action and comedy. The list of the most recently watched series on Netflix is headed by Better Call Saul while Big Bang Theory leads on Amazon and The Walking Dead on Sky.

If users access a VOD service, 81% spend more than one hour on the portal, 10% even more than 3 hours. Regarding daily usage, Netflix customers are particularly active: 34% access the service daily.

Netflix has the youngest users, Amazon the oldest. Regarding the income structure, Sky has the most well off users while Netflix customers have the comparatively least income.

Most users (40%) mainly access the services through their websites while 23% use a smartphone or tablet app.
