IBC2015.Hall 1, Stand 1.B79. Media Broadcast will be focussing on the future of terrestrial distribution via DVB-T2/HEVC as well as satellite platforms and services with wide-area coverage.
The full-service provider in the broadcasting and media industry will be presenting its innovative solutions for all areas of the broadcast sector in the RAI Amsterdam.
Premiering the future of digital-terrestrial television: Media Broadcast will be launching the new terrestrial television in Germany in the spring of 2016, and for the first time will be combining the DVB-T2 standard with the efficient HEVC compression method. This will open up completely new opportunities for viewers and TV providers alike.
Around 40 channels will be distributed via DVB-T2, mostly in sharp HD quality. As well as the “traditional” DVB-T2 distribution, further hybrid products in addition to the multithek will be available in the future. At its stand at the IBC, Media Broadcast will be demonstrating the signal quality of DVB-T2, supplied by the current test broadcasting station in Berlin.
The launch of DVB-T2 in Germany provides viewers with significant improvements in terms of broadcasts and picture quality while maintaining ease of use and cost-effective reception. TV providers will benefit from significantly greater programme distribution capacity – now also in HD – and new business models as well as greater technical coverage. In this way, DVB-T2 will strengthen the competitive position of the third-most important TV reception method among distribution channels in Germany.
The introductory phase of DVB-T2 in Germany is planned for the early summer of 2016, among other things with the first HD broadcasts of public and private programme providers. Regular operation will start in the first quarter of 2017 – initially in urban centres, then extending step by step to rural regions. The conversion from the current DVB-T standard to the successor system DVB-T2 is expected to be completed with full coverage by the middle of 2019.
