“We have the most number of Ultra HD channels,” said Markus Fritz, Director Commercial Development and Marketing at Eutelsat, “Running three over Europe, one over Asia.”
During this year’s IBC Eutelsat is showcasing Ultra HD in cooperation with Red Buill Media. During the past few months, the operator worked with France TV Sport for the French Open in HEVC and with FIFA in cooperation with IDC to cinemas in London.
“We are open for all partners to join us. And looking at the road map, we feel there is a strong interest in testing. In terms of deployment, pay tv operators will need to embrace technology and use it as differentiator.
By 2016/17 we will see phase two, when in technical terms the frame rates increase from 50 – 60 frames now to 100, 120 frames. Then we will also have the right set-top boxes.”
With regards to content for 4K, Fritz is optimistic: “Compared to HD overall content supply is already better than in the beginning op HD, so content is waiting already. We are working with our partners to find out what consumers are looking for. So 2016 can be achievable.”
Samsung is already showing integrated TV sets and the first one or two STBs were already on show ai this year’s IFA.
