The FIFA Football World Cup 2014 semi-final between Germany and Brazil on July 8 achieved not only a historic result with Germany’s 7:1 victory, but also a new ratings record on German television.
With an average of 32.57 million viewers, the highest ratings were recorded since the beginning of TV viewership measuring in Germany. In the peak, 33.86 million viewers watched the live transmission by public broadcaster ZDF. The match achieved a TV audience market share of 87.8%.
The former TV ratings record holder was the FIFA Football World Cup 2010 semi-final between Germany and Spain which was watched by 31.10 million viewers.
Public broadcaster ARD will transmit the World Cup 2014 final on July 13 from 21.00 CET live.
