German cable operator Unitymedia Kabel BW has made its mobile add-on service Horizon TV available to Android devices.
The TV and media service which has so far been restricted to the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch now also runs on smartphones and tablets based on Google’s operating system.
With the Horizon TV app viewers gain access to more than linear 90 TV channels, a video-on-demand service with a TV programme archive and an electronic programme guide (EPG) through their local Wi-Fi network.
If they are outside the Wi-Fi reach, viewers can currently watch 13 TV channels and movies ordered from the VOD library through mobile networks (3G, LTE). Customers with a Horizon set-top-box can also use their mobile device through the app as a remote control.
A push-to-TV feature will be introduced shortly. With the function, Horizon TV users can switch from the app to the TV set in their living room by the touch of a button to continue watching the current TV programme on the large screen.
Horizon TV users who have an Android device of at least version 4.0 can download the app free of charge from the Google Play Store.
Horizon TV is available to all cable and internet customers of Unitymedia Kabel BW in the three federal states North-Rhine Westphalia, Hessen and Baden-Württemberg served by the Liberty Global subsidiary. A Horizon box is not required to use Horizon TV.
