Broadband is growing in importance as a distribution medium for broadcasters, and thus so is the EBU’s annual BroadThinking event.
Coming up later this month in Geneva (27-28 March), the 2013 edition will look at general trends in broadband delivery – both policy and technical – with the second day focusing on CDNs and hybrid scenarios.
Some say we are in the third phase of media delivery over the internet. The first phase was when the pioneers managed to transport postage stamp sized videos over the internet to PCs.
The second wave brought the rise of OTT media services; and now we’ve reached the point where the challenge is to maximise the quality of experience for the end user who is watching the content.
BroadThinking 2013 will address some of the key questions raised in this third phase: what is the audience doing? How expensive is online distribution compared to other means? What is the regulatory framework?
