IBC 2011 – AMSTERDAM. EchoStar, an early mover in multiscreen television through its ownership of SlingMedia is to show a portfolio of connected devices to help pay-TV operators exploit the potential of IP connectivity.
The company will also have its slate of set-top boxes and DVRs that include over-the-top TV apps and services.
Included is the new 320GB Mercury Ultra Slim DVR – believed to be the thinnest hybrid DVR in the world. EchoStar also has a new Android-based STB designed to allow operators to extend services over IP for multiscreen delivery.
EchoStar’s IP credentials have been enhanced by the recent purchase of Move Networks. The adaptive bitrate technology will be seen on the EchoStar stand.
Rhod Williams, general manager, EchoStar Europe said: “As a pioneer in TV Anywhere, we’ve been heavily focussed on multi-screen delivery through our wholly owned subsidiary Sling Media. We continue to focus on bringing further solutions to market including whole home DVR using DLNA and connected TV to the HbbTV standard”.
Operator-centric ‘TV Anywhere’ solutions, including integrated ‘SlingLoaded’ technologies and industry protocols such as DLNA and HbbTV will also be seen.
