IBC 2008 – AMSTERDAM. Microsoft is beginning to position its X-Box games system as a media platform capable of controlling other media devices within the home.
Appearing at IBC 2008, Gavin McLauchlan, EMEA customer marketing manager, Microsoft Mediaroom showed delegates a seamless integration between the X-Box and its IPTV middleware Mediaroom. “Microsoft is moving into allowing entertainment through the X-Box,” said McLauchlan, showing how movies could be purchased through the device, either from the local operator, or a third party. “It gives you a true whole home media proposition that we haven’t had before.
McLauchlan said the X-Box would not become the main set-top box, but it would be able to move between devices in a way that has not previously been possible.
