German internet users are viewing an average of eight videos a day for 50 minutes, according to the high-tech industry association Bitkom.
This is a significant improvement over the figures a year ago, when people watched six videos for an average of 34 minutes a day.
Although YouTube is by far the most popular video destination site attracting 70% of all traffic, broadcasters are now moving in with ProSiebenSat.1 group (MyVideo.de, ProSieben.de, others) getting 23%, United Internet (GMX, web.de) 21%, Facebook 19%, RTL Group websites (Clipfish, RTL.de) 17% and Universal Music 14%.
The figures come from a representative sample carried out by comScore during October.
“Video consumption on the internet increases continuously,” said board member Ralph Haupter, Bitkom, in a statement. “In addition to the typical short video clips we now see increased consumption of TV series, documentaries, comedy shows and entire movies. This trend is due to the increase with the spread of tablets, which are heavily used for media consumption.”
