HbbTV Symposium and Awards head to London

March 21, 2024 13.09 Europe/London By Julian Clover

The 12th HbbTV Symposium and Awards will take place on 14 – 15 November 2024 in London, the HbbTV Association has confirmed.

The annual summit of the connected TV industry, targeting platform operators, broadcasters, advertisers and adtechs, standards organisations and technology companies, will be co-hosted with Everyone TV. The joint venture owned and supported by the UK’s leading public service broadcasters BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 operates the free-TV platforms Freeview and Freesat.

“Having our Symposium in London again after nine years is quite natural as the UK has in many aspects been the leading country with HbbTV services and innovations for many years. We are delighted to cooperate with Everyone TV on this exciting event,” said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association.

“HbbTV has been central to the success of Freeview Play with more than 23 million compatible receivers already sold. This November’s summit provides the perfect opportunity to showcase the UK’s new streaming service, Freely, which forms the next step in the evolution of free TV. Arriving in Q2 2024, Freely delivers a fully integrated IP and DTT viewing experience by making use of the latest v1.2.1 HbbTV Operator Application technology,” said Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV.

The HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2024 will take place at Church House, Westminster.

Topics include new developments in the areas of Targeted Advertising, DVB-I, the HbbTV Operator Application and Application Discovery over Broadband Phase 2 (ADB2).

Following the introduction of a new format at last year’s event, the HbbTV Symposium will again consist of a traditional conference with keynotes, panels and roundtables on the first day, followed by the glamourous HbbTV Awards ceremony in the evening. The second day will feature an unconference, where the participants will decide the agenda.
