New tennis channel for Czech Republic

November 29, 2023 06.52 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

A new sports channel focused on tennis will make its debut in the Czech Republic on January 1, 2024. Known as Premier Sport 3, it will be wholly produced by O2 TV and replace O2 TV Tenis.

Premier Sport 3 will include coverage of the ATP World Tour, the live broadcasting rights to which have been secured for the Czech Republic and Slovakia by Lama Energy Group, whose interests include the Czech TV operator Telly. Both O2 TV and Telly will offer their customers the new channel, and other operators are negotiating to include it in their programme packages.

Commenting on the new channel, Anna Lenerova, head of content at O2, said: “We are building on the successful tennis line we started in 2017 with the WTA circuit. Our main goal is to bring the best TV content for years to come, which is why we now include world tennis from the prestigious ATP World Tour tournaments. At the same time, we are happy that the most attractive women’s and men’s tennis, which can be seen at the star-studded Grand Slams, remains on O2 TV. Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open can be watched by O2 TV viewers on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 channels”.

Marek Kindernay, executive director of the O2 TV Sport channel, added: “The complete production of the Premier Sport 3 station will be realised in our O2 TV Sport editorial office. Starting in 2024, fans can expect hundreds of hours of live broadcasts and accompanying programs with Czech commentary. We have at our disposal an experienced team of commentators who will accompany the maximum number of tournaments from the ATP World Tour with their voice. We are also preparing other news that we will introduce in January with the start of the new season”.

Telly director Vladimír Rusnak said: “We are happy that we can offer our viewers top tennis experiences in the form of the complete ATP Tour. Tennis fans will really get their money’s worth on Telly. In addition to the broadcasts of the ATP tournaments, they can also watch all the Grand Slam tournaments, which we have also been broadcasting for a long time”.
