Canal+ secures WTA rights for Czech Republic and Slovakia

November 22, 2023 15.21 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Canal+ Group and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) have announced the exclusive broadcast of the Hologic WTA Tour on Canal+ channels in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

From January 2024 and for five seasons until 2028, Canal+ will offer live broadcasts of the WTA 1000 and WTA 500 tournaments, selected WTA 250 tournaments, and also the WTA Finals, or the Tournament of Champions. The broadcasts will be available to customers via Skylink satellite and internet TV or the streaming service Canal+, which launched at the end of April this year.

Commenting on the development, Ladislav Rehacek, VP of Canal+ Luxembourg for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, said: “We were very keen on broadcasting rights to the WTA circuit for several reasons. One is the popularity of tennis in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in general, and another is the incredible success of Czech female players in recent years. In addition, tournaments are played practically throughout the year and are watched on television by a high percentage of viewers, among whom the proportion of women is much higher than in most other sports. We believe that with this step we will further increase the attractiveness of Canal+’s sports offer and significantly expand its scope beyond the circle of football connoisseurs”.

WTA Ventures CEO Marina Storti added: “With outstanding players competing at the top of our sport year after year, including many from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, we have no doubt that Canal+ viewers are in for an exciting season of events on the Hologic WTA Tour.

“We are excited to sign with Canal+ for the next five seasons as it expands its reach in tennis and its commitment to raising the profile of women’s sports”.
