Synterra Media, VGTRK and Rostelecom have launched what is described as the largest media network in Russia.
The terrestrial network transmits studio-quality television signals, covering 11 time zones and uniting the country’s 84 constituent entities. It allows for the transmission of signals from individual TV channels, packages of TV channels, TV multiplexes on the principle of “everyone with everyone”.
The network is an alternative to satellite signal delivery. Redundancy of trunk channels and the use of software-defined networking technology (SDN, Software-Defined Networking) ensures high reliability of signal delivery and opens up new opportunities for the development of broadcasting in Russia.
Commenting on the network, Anton Zlatopolsky, first deputy general director of VGTRK, general director of the Rossiya 1 TV channel, said: “Together with Synterra Media and Rostelecom, we have implemented the most important project for all Russian TV broadcasting and TV production – the creation of a reliable terrestrial signal delivery infrastructure. This is another step in the development of the technological environment of the VGTRK holding, which makes it possible to launch new TV projects and implement the most extraordinary creative ideas on the air of our TV channels and on the “We Watch” media platform”.
Grigory Urev, general director of Synterra Media, added: “The use of the infrastructure of the Synterra Media company ensured high reliability of the transmission of TV signals. Each network object is connected by several geographical routes, and the uninterrupted operation of the service is ensured by seamless switching technology hitless switching (switching without failures).”
Valery Ermakov, senior VP for corporate and government segments of Rostelecom, said: “As the country’s leading operator, Rostelecom traditionally participates in federal infrastructure projects. We see great interest in our high-tech solutions from representatives of the media market.
“Rostelecom will continue to take part in the formation of a global national media infrastructure that unites media groups, channels, information, educational and entertainment resources of the country into a single space”.
