The UK is to become the latest market where Fox Channel will close in favour of streaming service Disney+.
Fox will come to an end on Sky and Virgin Media on June 30th, after 17 years of broadcasting. It means that shows including War of the Worlds and The Walking Dead will transfer to the new streaming platform where consumers will have to pay an additional monthly fee for the full service.
Since it acquired the Fox name, Disney has closed Fox channels in the Nordic region, and rebranded Fox Sports to its own ESPN.
“On 30th June the FOX channel in the UK will close. Many titles will become available on Star on Disney+ and will be announced in the near future. We appreciate the support of our UK fans and can’t wait to keep sharing the best stories with you,” said Disney in a statement.
“Star on Disney+ serves as the home of movies and television from Disney’s creative studios, including Disney Television Studios (20th Television and ABC Signature), FX Productions and 20th Century Studios.”
In addition to Fox, Disney has previously shuttered the Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Junior brands.
