Vodafone has written to the Spanish regulator CNMC objecting to the agreement reached between Disney+ and Telefónica.
According to El Espanol, Vodafone warns that it will be faced with “covert exclusivity” since Disney will put obstacles in the way of its negotiations with the UK company to integrate its content, thereby delaying the implementation of an agreement that seemed close only a few weeks ago.
Vodafone also believes that Telefónica will enjoy exclusivity to Disney+ while Disney waits to reach similar agreements with itself and Orange.
This will go against the legal framework established by the regulator as it will make content difficult to access by other operators.
Sources indicate that the terms offered by Disney to Vodafone to integrate Disney+ into Vodafone TV were much less favourable than those it was offered by Netflix and HBO.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, The Walt Disney Company Iberia and Telefónica have announced Movistar as the Strategic Distributor’ for Disney+ when the streamer goes live in Spain.
