Amazon secures Champions League rights package in Germany

December 10, 2019 09.51 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Amazon has acquired part of the UEFA Champions League rights from the 2021/22 season for Amazon Prime Video in Germany.

The US company secured the A1 package comprising the top matches on Tuesday evenings, reports German media portal DWDL.

“We are looking forward to the UEFA Champions League, one of the most prestigious club competitions in the world. We are thrilled to be able to show our customers in Germany the top matches on Tuesday from 2021 onwards,” Alex Green, Managing Director of Amazon Prime Video Sport Europe, told the news service.

Pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland and streaming service DAZN currently share the Champions League rights in Germany. The successful bidders of the other rights packages from the 2021/22 season are not known yet.

In Germany, Amazon already holds the audio broadcasting rights of domestic football league Bundesliga.
