ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery launch German streaming service Joyn

June 18, 2019 10.53 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery have launched their joint German streaming platform Joyn, offering 55 TV channels as free live-streams.

The line-up comprises all free-to-air channels from ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery as well as the channels of public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. Further partners include Viacom, WELT and Sport1.

Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, Germany’s second major commercial TV broadcaster, is, however, is not part of the platform as it follows its own streaming strategy with its TV Now service.

Joyn also features a video-on-demand offer with in-house produced series, shows and exclusive premieres. Many programmes are also available on demand in the catch-up service for 30 days after their broadcast.

There are also curated theme channels. The first are offers from Food Network and MotorTrend, further channels are to follow.

Joyn is available as an app for smartphones and tablets (iOS/Android), Amazon Fire TV, smart TVs (Android TV), via Apple AirPlay and on the web at www.joyn.de – without registration.

In winter of 2019, the second expansion phase with subscription content will follow, including the integration of maxdome and the Eurosport Player.
