ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery will launch their joint German streaming platform in June 2019 under the name Joyn.
Joyn, the combination of the words ‘joy’ and ‘join’, aims to become the largest free-TV offer in Germany with livestreams of over 50 TV channels. There will also be an on-demand section with original productions such as series, shows and previews.
Many programmes will be available seven days ahead of their TV broadcast and 30 days afterwards as catch-up TV.
Joyn, which succeeds current streaming service 7TV, will be accessible via smartphones, tablets, web and smart TV sets – free of charge and without registration.
Selected users will be able to test the beta version in May 2019.
So far, ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery have gained 15 content partners for Joyn including ZDF, Sport1 and Axel Springer. By winter 2019, maxdome and Eurosport Player will be integrated into the portal.
RTL, however, declined the invitation to participate in the streaming venture and instead wants to expand its own streaming service TV Now.
