The Swedish TV market has seen its strongest growth in eight years.
According to Mediavision, the SVOD market grew by 45% alone between 2017 and 2018, with ad-funded video on demand also making a major contribution.
Total turnover grew by 8% year-on-year to SEK 25.3 billion.
The last time such growth was seen was in 2010, following a weak 2009.
Mediavision forecasts the current growth to continue into 2019 as VOD in all its forms continues to fuel growth. The analyst expects the AVOD segment will reach a turnover of SEK 2.5 billion by 2020. However, there is uncertainty surrounding the impact of self-regulatory measures. “Mediavision predicts a continued high demand for streaming services. Particularly as several new actors (Apple, Disney) are entering the market this year. All things considered we believe in continued growth and positive development on the market throughout 2019 and 2020,” says Mediavision CEO Marie Nilsson.
