Canal Digital selects 3SS to enhance OnePlace

February 19, 2019 10.11 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Scandinavian platform operator Canal Digital has rolled out new features for OnePlace subscribers, enabled by German multiscreen software provider 3 Screen Solutions (3SS).

Launched in February 2018, Canal Digital’s OnePlace service delivers next-generation Ultra HD entertainment on set-top boxes and personal video recorders, based on Android TV, via satellite and OTT to viewers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. As part of the deployment, 3SS delivered a custom launcher for an enhanced Android TV user experience.

Now Netflix-integrated, OnePlace is deploying several new features. Recent enhancements include ‘start-over’ for additional viewing convenience, ‘coming soon’ teaser promotions to highlight future content assets which subscribers will be able to view when available and the display of already-subscribed services, so users know at a glance whether an item of content or service is already a component their package.

With the help of 3SS, Canal Digital is also deploying ‘MixPanel’, an analytics tool enabling Canal Digital to capture and analyse user behaviour across devices. As a result, marketing teams can offer OnePlace subscribers new cross-platform promotional offers closely aligned with individual viewing patterns and preferences. The interface between content management systems and subscriber management is also improved, ensuring Canal Digital’s in-house commercial teams have up-to-the-minute and accurate billing and payment data, according to 3SS.

Furthermore, Canal Digital has transformed its internal product development processes by employing the latest principles of agile development, introduced to the company by 3SS. At the core is ‘SAFe’ (Scaled Agile Framework), an experience-based software development framework designed to accelerate and optimise system deployments.
