Subscriptions to cable and satellite services still remain an important part of home entertainment in North America.
A study of 4,458 individuals in the United States and Canada interviewed for TiVo’s Video Trends Report found more than 80% of respondents still have a cable/satellite service, and the majority are satis?ed with it; nearly a quarter of respondents answered “very satis?ed” for both linear TV service and pay-TV video on demand.
While 81.2% indicated they wanted to stay where they are, 18.8% suggested they would ‘cut the cord’ and head to a non-pay-TV or live service.
Significantly, interest in à la carte TV channel packages has decreased 12.8% year-on-year, and 29.1% of respondents are no longer interested in the option at all.
22% of respondents said they accessed pay-TV with a streaming device with 26.2% replacing their STB altogether with a streaming device.
SmartTVs head the list of Top 5 streaming devices with a 27.1% share, followed by gaming consoles (19.4%), Roku (17.7%), Amazon Fire Stick 15.7% and Apple TV (13.3%).
