Telekom Srbija plans to become the leading player in Serbia and the Balkan region, with up to one million TV and internet customers.
Speaking to Politika and quoted by B92, Vladimir Lucic, internet and media coordinator for Telekom Srbija Group, added that no one could criticise its recent acquisition of the cable operator Kopernikus Technology. Indeed, if this had not happened then Kopernikus would have overtaken Telekom Srbija in terms of multimedia subscribers as its development path was similar to that of Serbia Broadband (SBB).
Lucic also said that the Serbian market is unlike others in the region in that it is served by 90 cable operators. Rather than attack each other, they are in a sort of coalition against Telekom Srbija and targeting its subscribers.
Being threatened by cable operators in the provision of fixed internet and multimedia services, Telekom Srbija has responded by starting to acquire ones in Serbia, as well as Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Lucic revealed that at group level Telekom Srbija invests over €200 million annually in new technologies. It also plans to expand its business to not only the Western Balkans but countries in which the Serbian diaspora lives. These include Germany, Switzerland, the US and Canada. What is more, it has already been working as an MVNO in Austria for several years.
Lucic also confirmed the company remains interested in Telekom Albania. Furthermore, in the future Telekom Srbija will have three sources of revenue, namely internet, multimedia and digital services development.
