DTH operator Canal Digital has launched its brand-new TV-platform, called OnePlace, on the Android TV platform.
“This represents a total game changer for us as and our customers, as we for the first time have built our product on the open Google Android TV platform, giving the users a seamless experience between direct TV, streaming and the Google universe,” said Tormod Sandstø, Nordic PR Director at Canal Digital.
“The launch of OnePlace is the next generation TV experience for all of Canal Digital Satellite’s customers across the Nordics. The new set-top-box provides a seamless and personified access to different TV and streaming services, where TV channels, a weekly archive, films and series and games and apps are all just one click away.”
“We are doing something we have never done before. We are moving from a closed solution, where customers only can view content provided by us, to an open solution based on Android TV. We call next generation’s TV experience OnePlace,” says CEO of Canal Digital, Ragnar Kårhus.
“The name OnePlace also communicates the new platform’s ambition; to gather all content and make this easily accessible for our customers in one universe. Another central trait of the new solution is its seamless integration between streaming and live TV.
“To meet today’s and the future’s user needs from our customers, a seamless access to both direct and streamed content is essential. With OnePlace, we can also provide our customers with personal recommendations on relevant content among the 28 000 titles we have available in our streaming services, in addition to what is on live TV,” Kårhus concludes.
Canal Digital announced the news that it would use Android TV last September. The customised set-top-box front end and user interface was developed and designed by German multiscreen software provider 3 Screen Solutions (3SS).
