ProSiebenSat.1 closes VOD service MyVideo

September 30, 2017 21.34 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German media company ProSiebenSat.1 has closed down its streaming video portal MyVideo to focus on its video-on-demand (VOD) service maxdome.

Both platforms offered the possibility to watch movies and series on-demand for a single payment (Transactional-VOD) most recently.

“Since early September 2017, the maxdome store has already only been available on VOD platform maxdome,” a ProSiebenSat.1 spokesman told Broadband TV News. The store previously also featured on MyVideo which has been part of maxdome for around one year.

“With a clear focus on one portal, maxdome’s management wants to strengthen the VOD platform while, at the same time, directing former MyVideo users to maxdome,” the spokesman explained, adding that MyVideo will not be continued without the store business, but the brand remains reserved for further digital activities.

Users accessing the MyVideo website are redirected directly to the maxdome store.

ProSiebenSat.1 originally wanted to revamp MyVideo into a new portal focussing on video and entertainment complementing its digital TV offers and maxdome. User-generated content was already removed in autumn 2015 in favour of professional productions. Until the launch of the new portal, the website acted as a so-called premium content discovery platform with trailers showcasing new cinema releases, series, games and DVDs.
