Media Broadcast Satellite uplinks Bavarian local TV to Astra

July 20, 2017 12.43 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German service provider Media Broadcast Satellite has taken over the satellite distribution of the Bavarian local TV channels on Astra (19.2° East) from its teleport in Usingen near Frankfurt on July 1, 2017.

The uplink service is included in an agreement the company signed with Bayerische Medien Technik GmbH (bmt). The frequency used is 11.523 GHz H (SR 22,000, FEC 5/6).

The contract also comprises signal processing and encoding, statistical multiplexing as well as the monitoring of the 16 Bavarian local TV channels that are distributed across 10 channel slots for DTH households. The line-up includes, for example, Franken Fernsehen, münchen.tv and Regionalfernsehen Oberbayern.

The broadcast service also covers signalisation data for the HbbTV offer Lokal-TV-Portal and the data for the local TV channels’ hybrid services.

“Thanks to our decades of experiences and the corresponding resources for broadcast satellite services, we were able to realise the technical switchover to Teleport Usingen on short notice and without interruption,” said Christian Fleischhauer, managing director of Media Broadcast Satellite. “The TV channels thereby benefit from efficient content distribution at very economic conditions.”
