The strike that had crippled the Arianespace facility and much of the French dependency in Guiana is over.
Ahead of the French Presidential debate on Sunday, France’s overseas territories minister Ericka Bareigts pledged a €2.1 billion package for security, education, healthcare and business, which she described as a “defining day” for the future of the territory. However, no timetable has been given for its implementation.
A €1.1 billion package put forward at the beginning of April had been rejected.
The Ariane launch vehicle and its SGDC and Koreasat-7 satellite payloads had been in standby since mid-March.
Intitially roadblocks remained outside of the Korou Space Center, but these were removed on Saturday afternoon.
The space centre had been a focal point in the disparity in wealth in the territory for the duration of the seven-week strike.
