Conditional access (CA) provider Irdeto and Austrian platform operator ORS have signed a new 10-year deal at IBC 2016 which will see ORS implementing Irdeto cloaked CA to enable the delivery of secure video entertainment services to its customers.
The new partnership is the extension of a previous long-term relationship that sees the subsidiary of Austrian public broadcaster ORF move from Irdeto CA for smartcards to Irdeto’s software-based CA solution.
“The market in Austria is highly competitive and evolving quickly, so it was important for us to establish a long-term relationship with a flexible security partner to support us as we expand our customer base and look to launch new services,” said Michael Wagenhofer, CEO of ORS.
Doug Lowther, CEO of Irdeto, added: “Irdeto cloaked CA is unique in the market in its support of 4K UHD security standards in the satellite arena and can be fully updated to support new options and mitigate evolving threats. ORS is a forward-thinking operator which realises the importance of a secure platform for future innovation and growth and we are pleased to be continuing our relationship.”
Norbert Grill, managing director and CTO of ORS, commented: “The partnership with Irdeto over the last 10 years has been a key enabler to help us establish our market position and its cardless CA offering will benefit our distribution chain as we move away from the need to distribute smartcards and enable us to roll-out new services quickly and efficiently.”
