Switzerland’s largest cable operator UPC has secured the TV rights from the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF) for the live transmission of the Swiss ice-hockey games from the 2017/18 season for five years.
The rights were previously held by competitor Swisscom and its pay-TV subsidiary Teleclub.
For the games coverage, Liberty Global-owned UPC wants to build up a new pay-TV sports channel named MySports in collaboration with cable operator association Suissedigital and its members. Some games will be shown free of charge.
MySports will also be distributed by other Suissedigital members such as Quickline or net+.
The free-to-air rights for the next five seasons were again acquired by Switzerland’s public broadcaster SRG.
