The National Radiocommunications Company (SNR, or Radiocom) has extended the reach of DVB-T2 to around 62% of the population and 58% of the territory of Romania.
This follows the upgrade of transmitters in five locations to the standard last month.
Under the terms of its licence, Radiocom has to ensure that at least 90% of the population has access to fixed reception of DTT signals from the first multiplex MUX1, which it owns, by the end of this year.
Romania is undertaking the transition to digital broadcasting in stages, with analogue transmitters being upgraded by Radiocom specialists. The process began on June 17, 2015 with the switch of a transmitter to DVB-T2 in Bucharest, followed by a number of other locations.
The channels currently transmitted in the DVB-T2 standard include the public broadcaster’s TVR1, TVR2, TVR3 and TVR HD, along with five TVR regional channels.
Radiocom will also continue to broadcast TVR1 in analogue until the end of this year.
Meanwhile, quoting data published by the Ministry of Finance, HotNews reports that Radiocom posted a loss of over €6.3 million last year, or 16 times more than in 2014. Its turnover was 15.3% down year-on-year.
