With classics like Family Feud and Jeopardy, German broadcast group Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland will bring the channel name RTLplus back to German TV screens on June 4, 2016.
The ad-supported free-to-air channel recently licenced by the media authorities wants to mainly target female viewers from 45 years of age. Many of the series and shows of its schedule were screened in the 1990’s and after 2000 on RTL’s main channel which carried the name RTL plus until October 31, 1992.
The daytime will comprise reruns of docu soaps and court shows, the channel’s head Jan Peter Lacher told German industry portal DWDL. In early evening, RTLplus will screen new episodes of classic gameshows like Family Feud and Jeopardy while the primetime slot from 20.15 CET will be occupied by reruns of series, movies and reality shows such as Farmer Wants a Wife.
The use of the nostalgic channel name was a well thought out decision, explained Lacher. “We have intensely looked into this and tested it in our focused target group. Many remember the good time they had with the old RTLplus. In the younger audience, this brand name is unoccupied, giving us the opportunity to reload the brand.”
RTLplus will initially be distributed in digital via satellite and through the RTL app TV Now with cable networks to follow.
