The channel name RTL plus will return to German TV screens after almost 25 years.
The media authorities’ licencing and supervision commission ZAK has issued a TV licence to broadcaster RTL Television for the operation and distribution of nationwide TV channel RTL plus covering the programme segment entertainment at its latest assembly in Berlin.
The media authorities didn’t provide further details. RTL also remains tight-lipped. “We are happy that ZAK – subject to the outstanding approval by regulatory body KEK – has approved the licence application we submitted. We will announce further details regarding our planned channel RTL plus soon,” a spokesman of parent company Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland told Broadband TV News.
RTL launched its German TV channel on January 2, 1984 under the name RTL plus. The ‘plus’ appendix was dropped on October 31, 1992.
The broadcaster’s most recent new channel launch was international service RTL International on January 18, 2016.
