Google’s Chromecast has partnered with TV manufacturer Vizio on a series of new TV sets that offer Chromecast-like functionality out of the box, according to Variety.
The new TVs from Vizio, a budget line of TV sets in the US, will function just like Chromecast streaming adapter, offering consumers the ability to watch online services such as Netflix and Hulu on their TV sets, but with the streaming initiating from mobile devices.
Google’s move to integrate Chromecast functionality is an interesting development, as until now the company has been championing Android TV for integration into TV sets with Chromecast being a separate solution to make legacy TV sets smart.
Chromecast has been a runaway success for Google, with over 20 million units sold of the first edition. It is easy to understand why: for a mere EUR35 it turns any TV set into a connected device at low-cost and without expensive built-in smart TV utility.
Last September, Google introduced a new, redesigned and updated version of its dongle.
