German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has expanded its footprint to Italian region South Tyrol.
Local households can sign up for subscriptions to Sky Austria as prepaid offerings at selected retailers in collaboration with Bolzano-based distribution partner Mediasat. With the move, Sky Deutschland increases its technical reach by 136,000 German-speaking DTH satellite households in South Tyrol receiving Astra (19.2 degrees East).
“The launch of subscription sales in South Tyrol is an important factor for Sky Austria’s further growth and considerably increases our reach,” said Christine Scheil, managing director of Sky Austria. “The distribution means that we meet the demands of many South Tyroleans seeking German-language first-class TV entertainment.”
Households in South Tyrol can also sign up for Italian-language sister service Sky Italia, turning Italy into the first country in which two Sky offerings are marketed in parallel.
The last new country entered by Sky Deutschland was Luxembourg on March 1, 2010. In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Sky channels are offered by local distribution partner Teleclub.
With Germany and Austria, the German-language Sky platform is now available in a total of six European countries.
