Digital drives RTL growth

August 27, 2015 11.17 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

RTL-HQRTL Group saw its net profit in H1 increase by 73.8% year-on-year to €351 million.

Its revenues were meanwhile up by 3.8% to €2,788 million, while EBITA increased by 3.3% to €534 million.

Digital revenues showed dynamic growth over the same period, up 94% to €219 million, thanks to organic growth and new acquisitions.

RTL Group’s catch-up TV services, websites and multi-channel networks performed particularly well, attracted a total 42.5 billion online video views in H1, or 171% more than in the same period last year.

The group currently generates more than 8 billion online video views per month, or 50% more than the monthly average in Q4 2014.

The aggregated online video views figure is expected to reach over 80 billion this year.

RTL’s channels, with the exception of Groupe M6, outperformed their respective markets in the first half. Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, for instance, reached a record high EBIT of €343 million, up 9.6% on a year earlier.

The group also expects its total revenue in 2015 to be slightly up on last year and full-year reported EBITA in line with last year.
