German public broadcaster ZDF has acquired a rights package from UK-based licence company BBC Worldwide containing around 160 hours of BBC documentaries focusing on history and science for its thematic channel ZDFinfo.
The vast majority of the productions are from 2014 and 2015. The lineup includes 8-part series The Secret World of the Oceans which ZDFinfo will show as a German free-to-air TV debut from June 28, 2015.
Further documentaries will be screened in autumn, for example 3-part series Britain’s Fortified History, 2-part documentary Cosmonauts – Heroes in Space, 3-part drama Armada – The Untold Story and 8-part science series Sparks of Invention.
