The Czech Association of Television Operators (ATO) has accused the new streaming service TV4you of violating the law.
In a statement, it says that offering apps without the consent of TV broadcasters whose programmes are made available to the public through the apps constitutes a clear and serious breach of their rights under copyright and broadcasting law.
The ATO adds that its members have not received any requests for such consent and that TV4you’s actions are causing them damage.
It also says that the ATO’s stand has legal support from the European Court of Justice, which recently dealt with a similar case.
TV4you allows viewers to stream 13 must-carry channels to their mobile devices.
The service is headed by Jiri Balvin, a former culture minister and head of the public broadcaster Ceske Televize (CT).
