Aflix by SmartVOD launches in Africa

August 25, 2014 08.36 Europe/London By Robert Briel

AFLIXSmartVOD by Vonetize launches the first ever OTT Hollywood premium service in Africa.

The service, branded Aflix by SmartVOD, launched in collaboration with a Nigerian technology company in the African Sub-Sahara, and is now available on smartphones and tablets.

The premium service offers over 2,000 hours of content, including new releases from major Hollywood studios (Disney, Warner Brothers, MGM, Miramax), TV series, Kids content, sports, Lifestyle, nature and science, music, Bollywood, telenovelas and more.

Aflix by SmartVOD is offered for a subscription fee of $9.99 per month, with new releases rental price of $4.99 for a 48-hour unlimited viewing license.

Taking into account the strong cash and pre-paid market in Africa, Aflix by SmartVOD also implements local Cash and Pre-Paid payment services. These services enable end-users to purchase physical vouchers at retail stores, redeemable inside the Aflix app for content bundles.

SmartVOD, in collaboration with its Nigerian partner, plans to expand across Africa during 2015, with LG, Toshiba and Samsung smart TV’s as well as set-top-boxes.

Noam Josephides, CEO of Vonetize, the owner of the SmartVOD brand, said: “Africa is on the verge of booming with new and exciting content offerings, based on a growing penetration of broadband and wireless connectivity. SmartVOD brings to Africa a top-notch content service, reasonably priced and available on any device, anywhere”.
