Although Netflix speeds increased by 65% from 1.51 Mbps to 2.5 Mbps between January and March 2014 on Comcast, the operator isn’t the fastest platform.
Comcast has climbed to fifth place on the ISP ranking, but is still behind four others (see chart).
“The Netflix ISP Speed Index is based on data from the more than 44 million Netflix members worldwide who view over 1 billion hours of TV shows and movies streaming from Netflix each month. The listed speeds reflect the average performance of all Netflix streams on each ISP’s network and are an indicator of the performance typically experienced across all users on an ISP network. A faster network generally means a better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.”, writes Joris Evers of Netflix, on the company’s blog.
“We’re also seeing early improvements on Telenor-owned ISPs in Norway, Sweden and Denmark after Telenor agreed to directly connect its network to Netflix. In Sweden, Com Hem has taken the top slot, unseating Own It for the first time.”
Interestingly, ISPs in Europe seem to beat the ones in the US. As an example, see below the speed index for Dutch ISPs. A complete overview of all countries can be found on the Netflix Speed Index website.
