Viaplay deploys Elemental

March 19, 2014 11.40 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Viaplay LaptopElemental video processing is enabling delivery of nearly 40 live channels and thousands of hours of premium library content to internet connected devices for Viaplay.

Viaplay is the Nordic countries’ leading streaming service for TV series, movies and sporting events.

The Viaplay deployment of Elemental Live and Elemental Server supports the creation of content delivered to smartphones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs, game consoles, as well as Viaplay’s OTT set-top box. With a comprehensive service offering from Viaplay, content from movie studios, US TV series, regional broadcasters, world class live sports and others can be watched on a wide array of devices.

“We’ve provided live and video on demand streaming to our audience for many years and have recently started to work with Elemental for encoding. The servers have proven reliable and high performing and we also appreciate the strong engineering background of the Elemental team,” said Kaj af Kleen, CTO for Viaplay.

“We need to upgrade our infrastructure continuously to accommodate the innovation we see in the video streaming market and we believe Elemental is a good partner for enabling this.”

“Viaplay is a technology pioneer and leader driving premium Internet-delivered video across the Nordic region,” said John Nemeth, VP sales EMEA for Elemental.

“We are happy to support its ground-breaking work in providing innovative multiscreen experiences to viewers of premium TV, movies and live sports entertainment.”

The solution for Viaplay was deployed in conjunction with thePlatform’s mpx video management system. The system provides easy workflow management of video ingest, metadata management, subscriber management and viewing rights enforcement, and automated publishing across device and video player profiles.
