ESPN Player launches on iPad

December 7, 2012 08.50 Europe/London By Julian Clover

ESPN has launched an iPad app for the streaming of its ESPN Player in the EMEA region.

It’s the first time that the sports media company’s broadband service, launched in 2007, has been available beyond the desktop computer.

Included is the ability to share links and comments around sports viewed via Facebook and Twitter. Fans can also access a full schedule of current live and on-demand games.

The app also allows ESPN to deliver targeted marketing to tailor messages and campaigns to subscribers.

Arne Rees, vice president, digital media, ESPN International, said: “We’re focused on extending fans’ access to the sports they love on the multiple devices that they increasingly use. Extending ESPN Player beyond desktop computers on to iPads helps us achieve that aim. ESPN has a long heritage of making the most of new technologies for fans.”

ESPN Player offers fans a range of sports, including basketball and American Football from the National College Athletic Association, X Games and American Le Mans Series, among other sports.
