The BBC iPlayer achieved a record high of 196 million requests during August, powered by the huge national interest in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The highest-ever requests from mobile and tablet devices also came in August, delivering 22 million and 17 million requests respectively, and contributing almost a fifth of total requests for the month.
There was also the highest-ever proportion of live TV requests during August (32%) as viewers tuned to live coverage of the Olympics. This beat the previous record that had only been set the previous month when to the Wimbledon 2012 Men’s Final and start of the Olympics, live viewing had increased to 24%
3.9m requests were made for the Opening Ceremony and 2.1m requests for Closing Ceremony.
The greatest number of requests still comes from computers, representing 58% of requests during July. Connected TVs are still very much in the minority, at 1% the figure has barely changed in a year, while tablets have climbed from 6% one year ago to 11% in August 2012.
iPlayer audiences peak at around 22.30; 90 minutes later than the standard peak.
