Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) is to conduct an investigation into the transmission of the national football team’s matches on a pay-per-view basis.
In the statement, the regulator says that it will try to determine whether these matches were initially offered to all national FTA broadcasters.
It will also perform a detailed analysis of media services offered by providers who, through their own or their owners’ platforms, have undertaken pay-per-view transmissions of the national football team in qualification matches for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
At issue is whether these transmissions were undertaken in accordance with the terms of the 1992 Broadcasting Act.
The KRRiT will also ask the president of the Competition Office (UOKiK) to look into whether the restriction of live coverage of the national football team’s infringes on consumers’ rights.
