HbbTV Summit Poland – WARSAW. Polish public broadcaster TVP’s first foray into HbbTV has been declared a success by Wieslaw Lodzikowski, the director of its technology department.
The test app that it launched for Euro 2012 had an average of 12,000 users per game and 125,000 opens.
Lodzikowski spoke at some length about TVP and its plans to build a hybrid platform.
Known as TVP Interaktywna, it will offer a wide range of services, some of the most challenging to produce being original language signs and signs for deaf or blind people.
He added that TVP has entered into a strategic partnership with Sony and will soon be embarking on special info campaign for the platform.
The platform will be delivered via DVB-T and TVP is currently talking with set-top box manufacturers.
It was also confirmed at the conference that TVP’s most immediate plans for HbbTV are now the launch of test apps for the news, which will have a regional focus, and the weather.
These will be followed by an Olympics app and an app that will appear in a breakfast programme this autumn.
