Unitymedia, Kabel BW and Cisco demo 1.5 Gbps

June 12, 2012 11.26 Europe/London By Robert Briel

ANGA CABLE 2012 – Cologne. Unitymedia, Kabel BW and Cisco Systems are showing a live demo of 1.5Gbps broadband internet via cable.

The test is using the DOCSIS 3.0 standard, which is already in use offering broadband subscriber broadband speeds up to 150 Mbps. “This demo show the enormous potential of our cable infrastructure with widespread fibre deployment,” said Uwe Bärmann, CTO, Unitymedia Kabel BW.

“Unitymedia Kabel BW is using Cisco’s CMTS Technology for services based upon EuroDOCSIS 3.0 basierten Dienste. We are very pleased to work with Unitymedia Kabel BW to define the transition to CCAP implementation, that is using from start to finish Cisco technology“, said Daniel Etman, senior product manager, Cisco Cable Access Business Unit.

The test takes place with a ‘real world environment’. Apart from the high-speed 1.5Gbps broadband speed, Unitymedia Kabel BW also distributes digital TV with 30 HD channels.
