Chris Dziadul Reports: The Polish connection

May 17, 2012 08.11 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

When it comes to the adoption of such new technologies as HD, 3D and now connected TV, Central and Eastern Europe, and in particular large and dynamic markets like Poland, have never been far behind those in the west.

This will undoubtedly become even more apparent at the end of this month, when Broadband TV News holds its first ever event in the country. Taking Connected TV in Poland as its theme, it will feature a panel discussion between some of the leading players in the local and international industry.

Cyfrowy Polsat, for instance, besides being the operator of the country’s largest DTH platform also includes the popular interactive entertainment platform ipla in its portfolio, while the national commercial broadcaster TVN lists the on demand service TVN player among its interests and is also actively engaged, with 4vod, in the introduction of HbbTV into Poland. Significantly, TVN’s owner ITI Group is also behind the onet.pl, the country’s leading web portal.

Iplex has meanwhile been described in some quarters as a Polish cross between Netflix and hulu, and the Connected TV Marketing Association CEE represents the industry as a whole. Samsung, as we all know, is at the forefront of developments in the connected TV space around the world.

Our event, which will take place at Le Méridien Bristol Hotel in Warsaw on Thursday, May 31, will be co-hosted by Level 3, an international communications company and one of only six Tier 1 internet providers in the world. It will provide those who attend invaluable insights into the state of the connected TV market in Poland today and how it is likely to develop in the months and years to come.

Importantly, it will also be of relevance to those interested in the CEE region as a whole, because many of the developments now taking place in Poland are also being replicated – or will shortly be – in many other markets.

Connected TV in Poland is free to attend. For more information and to register for free, please go to:
