Blinkbox secures Disney Day&Date

April 4, 2012 11.32 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Tesco-backed online movie service Blinkbox has signed a new agreement with Disney UK & Ireland that will allow subscribers to buy titles on the same date as their DVD release. The movies will be available for streaming over PCs, Macs, smart TVs, games consoles and tablets.

The deal means that some movies, such as War Horse, from DreamWorks Films, and Disney’s The Muppets, will be available to buy or rent on blinkbox on Day&Date. Other titles including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins are available to buy. Disney stalwarts Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and Brothers & Sisters from ABC Studios are also included in the package.

Disney Pixar’s Toy Story, plus Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins are also available to buy. blinkbox customers can also buy top TV dramas like Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and Brothers & Sisters, produced by Disney’s US network TV production arm, ABC Studios.

Michael Comish, CEO and co-founder of blinkbox said: “This is the latest in a long line of deals with top Studios ensuring that blinkbox offer the latest releases the same day as DVD. To put it in to context, last week blinkbox had 35 of the top 40 latest movie releases available to watch instantly.”

The latest deal expands the blinkbox catalogue to over 10,000 films from existing partnerships with all the major studios including Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Universal, plus deals with over 40 other programming providers.
