Prince William and Kate’s Royal Wedding has broken into the Top 10 most-viewed live events on mobile in the US, according to MobiTV – but only just. It is now at the number 10 position of most watched events on the MobiTv platform.
The mobile TV audience spike during the Royal Wedding was revealed after the event appeared in a list that MobiTV has published, which charts the ten most-viewed live events in the company’s history.
Historically, live events have driven mobile TV usage. MobiTV’s list of live broadcasts that have attracted large audiences of mobile TV viewers include Tiger Wood’s press conference, in which he made his famous ‘Mea Culpa’ to the world, the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama and news footage of the earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan.
The breaking news of the death of Michael Jackson attracted the biggest audience, with the likes of Fox News, MSNBC and ESPN Mobile TV all experiencing an increase in ratings. Access to mobile TV means that consumers have the chance to tune into watch live events irrespective of their location or the time of day.
