The number of regional TV channels in Ukraine is likely to be significantly reduced following the country’s transition to digital broadcasting.
AKTR and ATV report that the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting has held a meeting in the city of Odessa to discuss the issue.
It chose the location to highlight the fact that in Odessa there are currently no less than 11 FTA and 17 cable-delivered channels.
The regulator is proposing that all regions should be served by four local TV stations and will invite applications for licences from tomorrow (May 20).
One propoal that may be considered would be for such cities as Odessa to be served by its own local DTT multiplex.
