Mediaset is building a next generation contribution network to feed pictures from its Italian Serie A football coverage directly to its facilities in Rome and Milan.
Subsidiary Elettronica Industriale will deploy T-VIPS’ TVG450 JPEG2000 Video Gateways for the network, meeting the requirement for high video quality and low delay. The system has been put in place in partnership with Video Engineering S.r.l and covers all of Italy’s major sporting arenas.
“We’ve been around with JPEG2000 for some time, so we had all the references, but Mediaset had some wide-ranging requirements, Janne Morstøl, COO, T-VIPS, told Broadband TV News. “They wanted to go from very high quality, mathematically lossless with no compromise on the video at all, down to good quality visually lossless.” Morstøl explained it was important for Mediaset to have a clear upgrade path to take account of future developments.
The T-VIPS TVG450 is the industry’s first JPEG2000 video gateway, based on the latest advances in JPEG2000 compression and IP networking and supporting 3D, 3G HD (1080p) HD, and SD contribution over IP transport networks.
